Yamaha riders scored an amazing 20 class championships and numerous podiums at the annual Mini O’s National Winter Olympics supercross and motocross events at Gatorback Cycle Park in Alachua, FL. on November 19-26. The multi-day event is unusual because it offers amateur riders the chance to race on both supercross and motocross tracks during a single week. Leading the charge were Yamaha-backed Cooper Webb and Jeremy Martin, whose combined efforts gave Yamaha five SX and MX championships. In all, Yamaha machines won 13 supercross championships and seven motocross championships. As well, Rock River Powersports of Jefferson, WI and Triangle Cycles of Danville, VA generously supported all Yamaha riders with Trackside Support.

Both Webb and Martin are new to the Yamaha family, having just switched over to blue machines the week before the Mini O’s event. However they definitely made the most of it! Aboard his 2012 YZ250F, Webb won three class championships including 250 B Modified and Open B Modified (where he raced his 250F against 450s) in supercross, and Open B Stock in motocross (scoring 2-1 moto finishes). Webb’s most dominant win came in the 250 B Modified supercross final, where he led all eight laps and set the fastest race lap en route to finishing five seconds ahead of YZ-mounted Anthony Rodriguez and Shane McElrath in a 1-2-3 Yamaha podium sweep. Webb’s efforts at the event didn’t go unnoticed by race officials as he was awarded the special Olympiad awards for being the Top B rider in both 250 and 450 classes.

Not to be outdone, Martin likewise claimed a 250 A/Pro Stock supercross championship on his YZ250F and a Open A/Pro Stock motocross championship on his YZ450F plus he also earned three additional podium finishes in 250 A Stock, 250 A Modified in Supercross and Open A Stock in Motocross. Most impressively, in Martin’s 250 A/Pro Stock supercross win, he battled up from third to take the lead with four of 10 laps remaining, ultimately winning by nearly four seconds and setting the fastest race lap in the process. The awards didn’t stop on the podium for Martin as he won the prestigious Dunlop Silver Tire award for being the Top A rider in both 250 and 450 classes!
