Supercross February 16, 2008 | Houston, TX Results

Top gate picks for the 20-lap Supercross main event went to heat winners Reed and Windham. But it was Davi Millsaps who got the holeshot with Windham close behind and L&M Racing’s Reed mired in mid-pack on his YZ450F. Millsap’s advantage didn’t last long though as he crashed on the second lap, handing the lead to Windham with Yamaha Factory Racing’s Josh Hill close behind on his own YZ450F. While Reed worked past riders, Hill held onto second place and appeared on his way to his second podium of the season until Reed got by on lap 10 and Tim Ferry worked past on lap 17. “I was glad to see Josh Hill getting back up to speed, running second for much of the race and then finishing fourth – he had a good night of racing and that’s where he belongs,” said Yamaha Supercross team manager Jim Perry. “It was also good to have four Yamahas finish in the top 10 this week.”

Regarding injured Yamaha riders: Broc Hepler had pins put in his hand two weeks ago and should be ready to go by the Seattle round, while Grant Langston, who had an eye procedure last week, is currently recovering and hopes to be back in four to five weeks.

Supercross... Chad Reed and Jason Lawrence both finished second at the Houston round of the 2008 AMA Supercross Series on Saturday night, Feb. 16, with Reed in the premier Supercross class and Lawrence in Supercross Lites. Now with five wins and two seconds this season, Reed still enjoys a commanding 32-point lead over race winner Kevin Windham. But the big news is that Lawrence is now just one event away from winning his first Supercross Lites championship. But he will have wait until April 26, when the eighth and final round of the Lites West series plays out in Seattle, WA.

Supercross Lites... All eyes were on Lawrence and Ryan Dungey, the two Lites title contestants, during the 15-lap Lites final. Dungey took the holeshot with Lawrence close behind in the lead pack. But as happened several times this season, Dungey crashed and handled the lead to Lawrence on lap two. Dungey ultimately fell again and finished fourth, leaving a hard-charging Austin Stroupe to take over the lead from Lawrence on lap six. With the championship in mind, Lawrence wisely settled for second and extended his points lead to six over Dungey. “I think that maybe my ‘A’ game is being smart,” mused the Yamaha of Troy YZ250F rider afterwards. “Now I have one more race to hold it together, and I am going to be ready come that race.”
