Supercross February 23, 2008 | Atlanta, GA Results

Chad Reed recovered from a scary mid-race crash to finish sixth at the Atlanta, GA. round of the 2008 AMA Supercross Series on Saturday night, February 23. Fortunately Reed got away with the vicious endo only shaken up and with his points lead over Kevin Windham intact as the season approaches the halfway point. Davi Millsaps inherited the lead when Reed bailed off his YZ450F and went on to win the 20-lap race at the Georgia Dome. Meanwhile, in the first race of the 2008 Lites East championship, YZ250F-mounted Jake Moss and Tyler Bowers finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Supercross... L&M Racing’s Reed and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Josh Hill set the two quickest lap times during practice, and Reed also won his heat race. Setting the stage for a possible sixth Supercross win this year, Reed then took the holeshot and led the first four laps of the final over Millsaps. But he caught a footpeg on a steep wall-like jump and crashed violently. Reed’s never-quit attitude kicked in immediately and he got his Yamaha restarted, resumed the race in 11th place, and put in a gutsy ride to finish sixth, dropping only seven points to Windham in the process.

Hill likewise put in a strong qualifying run to finish third in his heat race, then challenged for a podium in the main event. But he also crashed hard on lap 13, getting the wind knocked out of him in the process and ultimately retiring from the race. “It was a pretty brutal track, rutty with a lot of obstacles,” explained Jim Perry, Yamaha’s Supercross team manager. “After a rough night of racing, fortunately both of our guys are okay and looking forward to next week’s event.”
