Brandon Currie grabbed his third consecutive victory in 2008 AMA Supermoto Lites competition in Shawano, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 24. The win gives the Californian a perfect three-for-three record for the season so far on his Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZ250F. Meanwhile teammate Mark Burkhart finished third in the premier Supermoto class on his YZ450F and now has one win and two podium finishes in three races. Currie departs Wisconsin firmly atop the points standings with a healthy nine-point advantage, while Burkhart now rides just three points behind race winner Troy Herfoss in the Supermoto standings.
Supermoto... Still sore from a nasty crash at the X Games, Burkhart once again showed true grit by posting the third-fastest time in Supermoto class practice and also finishing third in his heat race. But he had to dig even deeper when the 14-lap afternoon Supermoto final started, getting away only in fifth place and then having to work his way forward. He did so brilliantly, jumping to fourth on lap five and then taking over the final podium spot two laps from the finish. “I think everybody’s doing a great job,” said team manager Chuck Graves. “Brandon managed to pull off another win for Yamaha, and I’m pretty happy about that. Mark should be healthy by the Miller Motorsports Park round in Utah on Sept. 7, and he’ll definitely up the pace again when we get out there.

Supermoto Lites... The winding track at rural USA International Raceway was the longest of the year with a combination of about 80 percent asphalt and 20 percent rocky, sandy dirt. Currie dominated both practice and his heat race to put his YZ250F on the pole for the Lites final. It was an exiting race start as Matt Abbott jumped to the holeshot with Currie, Matt Burton and YZ250F-mounted Robert Loire stormed three-wide into the first turn. Currie took control of the fight immediately, squaring off the turn and then using his own YZ’s power to rocket into the lead. He was never challenged after that, and led all 10 laps to the flag. “My Yamaha was just handing really well,” said a happy Currie later. “I was able to keep my momentum up right through the corners, which is essential on this fast, flowy track.”
