Snowmobile - Cross Country Jan. 3, 2010 | Grafton, ND Results

Josh Carey gave Yamaha’s remarkable FX Nytro® its biggest win in cross-country racing so far this season by taking first in the Semi Pro 600 Improved class at the second round of the 2009 USCC snowmobile cross-country series in Grafton, ND on Saturday, Jan. 3. His finishing time after 30 miles of hard racing was an impressive 24 seconds ahead of the next driver, and Carey also took home a nice Yamaha contingency check in the process. Further adding to Yamaha’s trophy haul over the weekend was Steve Emerson, who won the Sport 85 class on his Phazer®.

Semi-Pro Improved... Carey’s race was held in near-blizzard conditions on Saturday morning, with five-degree air temperature freezing the fingers and vicious blowing snow hampering visibility. The USCC event structure sends competitors off individually at timed intervals, so the faster riders needed to catch and pass other racers through the blinding snow. Carey was up to the challenge and used the FX Nytro’s reliable four-stroke power to begin passing other sleds soon after his start, and he continued to race hard along the four miles of frozen river and 11 miles of ditches and tree line that made up the two-lap event. Racing at speeds over 90 mph, Carey and the FX Nytro had all 23 other sleds in his class covered.

Just as impressive, the FX Nytro was the only four-stroke in its class, showing further proof of the superiority of Yamaha’s four-stroke technology. “I was happy to take home the win on my Yamaha," said the 23-year-old Carey afterwards. “Visibility was tough at times, but the FX Nytro has great power all across the power band, and compared to the competitors’ two-strokes, the low-end power makes it easier to ride fast under tough cross-country race conditions.” Yamaha snowmobile racing coordinator Jesse Strege added, “Josh just started racing our FX Nytro in cross-country last year and this is by far the biggest win for him. He has great character and I am happy to have him on our team.”
