Snowmobile - Cross Country March 10, 2012 | Warroad, MN Results

The FX Nytro scored Yamaha’s biggest cross-country snowmobile win to date as Josh Carey and Ryan Greening finished a commanding 1-2 in the grueling two-day Munising 300 event in Munising , Mich. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28-Mar. 1. Greening then followed up with an overall win in the Sport 85 class aboard his Phazer RTX to complete a memorable weekend for Yamaha snowmobiles. The news was equally good 500 miles north in Kirkland Lake, Ont., as Iain Hayden won the Blair Morgan benefit race and finished second in the CSRA Pro Open Mod final on his Yamaha Factory Racing FX Nytro.

Semi-Pro Improved... The Munising cross-country event in Michigan featured one lap of a 14-mile course on Friday and two laps of a shorter 11-mile loop on Saturday, with the lowest overall elapsed time taking the win. Heavy snow and biting cold confronted competitors with difficult conditions including a 12-mile stretch of whoops measuring up to five feet deep and eight feet long _– so big that some sleds simply disappeared inside them. That didn’t concern either Yamaha driver, who used the FX Nytro’s low-end torque to accelerate over two at a time. On Friday Carey turned in the quickest time with Greening third fastest, setting the stage for a final shootout on Saturday.

Both drivers charged hard right from the start, and soon the question wasn’t whether Yamaha would win, but which Yamaha would win. After 22 miles of snowbound torture, Carey crossed the finish line just seven seconds quicker in total elapsed time than Greening to give Yamaha an incredible 1-2 finish. “The FX Nytro soaked up everything that the track could throw at it,” Carey grinned after the race. “The sled handled great and I couldn’t have asked for any better suspension setup. The motor was great_ too – I could just sit there and double half the holes.” An amazed Greening added, “The FX Nytro is the best sled I’ve ever ridden. I was totally comfortable the entire time in the worst conditions – I had no idea that a sled could handle like that.”
