AMA Motocross July 14, 2012 | Millville, MN Results

DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing’s Jessica Patterson took her third overall win of the 2011 AMA Women’s Motocross season with 2-1 finishes in Millville, Minn. on Saturday, July 16. The victory brings the YZ250F rider to within eight points of championship leader Ashley Fiolek, who finished second overall with 1-2 finishes. With three rounds remaining in the WMX season, there are plenty of points up for grabs as Patterson fights to repeat her 2010 championship. The Motocross Lites division also saw a great performance by DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing’s Kyle Cunningham, who grabbed both holeshots aboard his own YZ250F, and then battled well inside the top five in both motos to finish fourth overall with 4-4 finishes. He is now fourth in Motocross Lites points.

In the women’s division, Patterson qualified second behind rival Fiolek on Saturday morning under hot and humid conditions at Spring Creek Motocross Park. Fiolek then proceeded to take the holeshot ahead of Patterson and rest of the field in the first of two eight-lap motos. While riding in second, Patterson made a mistake and lost the position to rival Tarah Gieger partway through lap two, but she quickly regained her composure and began to whittle away at Gieger’s advantage. After gaining time lap after lap, Patterson finally reclaimed second place just past the race’s halfway point, but by that time Fiolek had a sizable lead that could not be overcome.

Hardly content with her first-moto finish, in moto two Patterson turned the tables and took command early, leading Fiolek, Gieger and the rest of the competitive women’s field from the very first lap onwards. She piloted her Yamaha with authority and precision, first leaving her rivals in her roost and then eventually building up a huge advantage of over 21 seconds by the checkered flag to obtain her sixth individual moto win of the season. “It was a long and hard-fought day on a tough track, and I’m really glad to come away with another overall win,” Patterson said.
