Pro Class... Round three of the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series was held at Race town 395 in the high desert of California. Warm temperatures and high winds throughout the day made for a dry, dusty race course. The pro class had 21 entries and for the third time this season we had to run heat races for gate pick into the main event.

The Nelson Report - Round 3
Racetown 395,
Adelanto, CA
Heat 1: Josh Frederick held the lead exiting turn one and soon there was a four man freight train at the front with Frederick leading Jason Fife, Justin Noss and Brandon Smith. The front four battled throughout the race but at the end it was Noss aboard his Yamaha YFZ making the passes and winning the heat ahead of Frederick, Fife and Smith.
Heat 2: My #94 YFZ rocketed me to the holeshot with Chris Riley tucked in behind for second. I pulled away at a rate of five seconds a lap as I caught and passed half the field from the first heat that started about thirty seconds before us. When the checkers flew I cruised to an easy victory with Riley holding onto second.
Main Event: Frederick once again reached the first turn in the lead but this time my YFZ held a tighter line and pulled me to the front exiting turn one. With a clear track ahead I put in some good laps and at the halfway point had a lead of close to ten seconds. Frederick had a battle with Smith for second and Smith took the position on lap three. Noss worked his way through the pack after a bad start and was into fourth by the halfway point. With an eight second lead on the final lap I made a very disappointing mistake when I slid a little too sideways through a left hander and caught a rut that flipped me over. I remounted my YFZ just in time to see Smith ride by on his way to the win. I salvaged second with Frederick, Noss and Jesse Goss rounding out the top five.
Round three of the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series is one that I would like to soon forget as a small mistake cost me the win. That said, I did still take second and extend my points lead over Frederick who is second in points. I’m really looking forward to the next race on June 22nd, a Saturday night race at Speedworld in Surprise, AZ.
