AMA Road Racing July 19 - 21, 2013 | Monterey, CA Results

Monster Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes put in a perfect weekend of AMA Superbike racing at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama by winning his sixth consecutive pole and both races on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24. Hayes’ eighth win of the year moves him further ahead in the points standings with six of 12 rounds completed. Making the weekend even better, teammate Josh Herrin finished second behind Hayes on Saturday and third behind Hayes and rival Blake Young on Sunday, giving the YZF-R1 control of the podium on both days.

Hayes’s mastery of AMA Superbike qualifying continued over the blisteringly hot weekend, with the Mississippi native proving fastest in every practice and qualifying session to take the pole over teammate Herrin on Saturday. Then in Superbike race one, Hayes controlled the field, keeping an aggressive Herrin at bay for most of the race to win by nearly 5.2 sec. Sunday began with a challenge for Hayes as he fell during the morning warm-up, damaging his primary bike and putting him aboard a backup R1 for the race. But it mattered little as Hayes controlled the entire race to finish nearly 5.0 sec. ahead of Young. Herrin’s race-two podium was especially hard earned as the Superbike rookie again took the holeshot and led early before being passed by Hayes. Then a mistake dropped him all the way down to ninth but he soon recovered, forging his way back up to second before another mistake dropped him one position to third with two laps remaining. Even so, scoring 2-3 finishes in only his sixth Superbike weekend is an incredible feat. “Josh Hayes continues to be in a class of his own,” said Yamaha road-racing team manager Tom Halverson. “It shows his tenacity and professionalism to have a big crash in the morning, shake it off and then return to business as usual in the afternoon.”

The Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha YZF-R6 of Cameron Beaubier won both Daytona Sportbike races, including the young Californian’s first ever National win, making it the best career weekend yet for Cameron, with teammate Tommy Hayden likewise grabbing a podium in race one.

The twin wins for Beaubier in Daytona Sportbike were especially satisfying after the promising newcomer suffered a knee injury early in the season. But that was all in the past at Barber, as Beaubier showed incredible speed to win the pole position. He carried the energy right into both 21-lap races, fighting with Hayden and rival Dane Westby in race one to take his first AMA pro win by just 0.2 sec. While the action was equally heated among several riders in the early stages of Sunday’s race two, this time the final fight was between Beaubier and Westby. Beaubier gained a crucial advantage several laps from the end, forged a bit of breathing room and then took his R6 to a nearly 2.2-sec. margin of victory. “Congratulations to Cameron and the entire Graves team,” Halverson added. “He had some bad luck in the first part of the season, so it’s great to see these two wins come his way.”
