Atrocious conditions at the Wisconsin ice race included relentless snowfall, icy turns and bumpy straights to challenge the racers. So poor was the visibility – especially at 90 mph on Butternut Lake! – that Friday’s practice session proved of limited value. That brought drivers into Saturday’s races with little idea what to expect along the 5.7-mile course. Which, as it turned out, featured not only bumps and ice, but also pockets of snow and standing water – all hidden in the flat light. Nevertheless Titus got his Pro Am +30 victory in his second event of the day, starting from last position and then passing everyone on the course ahead of him to win by over a minute. Altogether, Titus rode four classes totaling more than 85 miles of racing during the day. “I think I did more laps than anyone else,” he recounted. “My Nytro was as fast as anybody in the rough sections – I was catching and passing guys by carrying speed through the bumps, and when the top-end power came on it got out of the corners hard!”
