Yamaha Snowmobiles Sweep NSRA Great Southern Grass Drags. Yamaha FX Nytro, Apex and Nytro four-stroke models swept to an amazing eight pro-class wins at the NSRA Grass Drags doubleheader in Rochester, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. As a result of their winning ways, Jim Jones, Jerry Fix and Allen Ulmer are now 1-2-3 in points in both the Stock 600 S and Stock 600 Pro classes aboard their 2008 FX Nytro and Apex snowmobiles with one more weekend to go in the ‘07 NSRA series.
Saturday, September 22 Results... Under pleasant Minnesota skies, Saturday’s race action started with an exciting 1-2-3 Yamaha sweep in Stock 500 for Lustilla Racing’s Rocky Miller on his RS Vector, closely followed by Hauck Powersports’ Jim Jones and Fix Powersports’ Jerry Fix, both on 2007 Nytros. Then in 600 S, Fix led Jones and Allen Ulmer of Ulmer Racing to sweep the class – all aboard new ’08 FX Nytros. Jones, Ulmer, Miller and Fix continued their domination with an amazing Yamaha 1-2-3-4 sweep of Stock 600 aboard their Apexes. Finally, John Wheelock from ProLine Performance beat Jack Hendricks to the line in Open Mod 1000 – both aboard turbocharged Yamaha four strokes. Wheelock’s ET was scorching 4.18 sec. at nearly 130 mph, making Yamaha the quickest and fastest sled of the meet.

Sunday, September, 23 Results... Sunday’s racing provided four more Pro class Yamaha wins, starting with Jones leading Miller and Fix to the timing lights in Stock 500 aboard his ’07 Nytro. Then FX Nytro-mounted Miller, Jones and Fix went 1-2-3 in 600 S, Apex-mounted Jones, Miller and Ulmer took Stock 600, and Jones led Fix to victory in Improved Stock aboard a pair of Apexes. The 600 S final on Sunday was perhaps the closest race of the weekend, with Miller running 6.285 sec. to Jones’ 6.288 sec. – a narrow .003-sec. margin of victory. “You have to beat people off the line – reaction time is where it’s won,” Miller explained later. “The FX Nytro gets out of the hole quick and keeps on going from there,” Ulmer added. “The Apex gets out quick as well but it has longer legs and keeps pulling forever.” Once again, it was another weekend of excellent results to prove our Yamaha four-stroke performance.
