Snowmobile - Grass Drags September 14, 2008 | Jesup, IA Results

The grass-drag racing wins kept on coming for Yamaha snowmobiles at the second round of the 2008 National Snowmobile Racing Association (NSRA) season in Jesup, Iowa on Sunday, Sept. 14. Driving for Hauck Power Sports, 16-year veteran snowmobile racer Jim Jones chalked up pro wins in the Stock 600 and Improved Stock 600 classes on a pair of Apexes, as well as in Stock 500 on a RS Nytro. Jones now leads the points in all three classes as the series reaches the halfway point.

stock 600... The one-day event on a 500-foot grass drag strip benefited from good luck as overnight rains on Saturday nicely dampened the fields but stayed away on Sunday. Jones started the finals strongly with a win in Stock 600, where his four-stroke Apex took on and then dominated the two-stroke competition. Moving on to Improved Stock 600, where engine modifications are allowed to otherwise stock-appearing machines, in the final Jones went up against close rival Jerry Fix aboard his own rapid Fix Power Sports Apex – and the Yamaha Apex riders went 1-2. “This class is like AMA Superbike,” he commented later. “The sleds look stock on the outside but the engine modifications are good for another two-tenths of a second off the ET.” That’s plenty significant on a run that lasts scarcely more than five seconds.

Stock 500... After claiming yet another win in 500 Stock aboard his trusty RS Nytro, Jones finally headed to the line in Stock 600 Single Pipe where, in only the second competition appearance for Yamaha’s new 2009 FX Nytro XTX, he unfortunately red-lighted by cutting a 0.396 light (0.400 is perfect). With this misstep, Jones placed third place in class to cap a very successful weekend. Congratulations to Jim and the entire Hauck Power Sports team!
