Snowmobile - Grass Drags September 16, 2007 | Jesup, IA Results

WSA 500 Results... Driving a new 2008 FX Nytro, an ’07 Nytro and a pair of Apexes, snowmobile racer Jim Jones took home four wins in the National Snowmobile Racing Association’s annual WSA 500 grass drags in Jessup, Iowa on Sunday, September 16. It was the first time the Hauck Powersports racer has won all four events on a single day, and the victories put him in the points lead of each class with four rounds left in the season. Adding to the prestige for Yamaha, Jerry Fix of Fix Powersports finished second in each race to make it a blue-and-white 1-2 sweep.

Jones and Fix’s first Sunday-afternoon final was 600 Stock aboard their Apexes. It was over in less than six seconds, with Jones leading Fix by scarcely one inch at the end of the 500-foot grass strip. Although Fix had a lower ET of 5.56 seconds to Jones’ 5.57 seconds, Jones’ quicker reaction time earned him the win. Incredibly, similar finishes were repeated in 500 Stock, where Jones and Fix each drove Nytros, in 600S aboard their new ’08 FX Nytros, and finally in 600 Improved, the quickest class, on their modified Apexes. So close were the two Yamahas that neither driver could be sure who won until they talked to race officials.

“That’s the first time I’ve won all four classes in one day that I can recall, and I have been doing this for 15 years,” Jones said afterwards. “What made the difference was good clutch setup – and it takes years of experience to figure out how to do that.” He also had some very positive words to say about the new FX Nytro. “That thing is awesome,” he added. “It’s fast and easy to ride, and people loved seeing it today. You should have seen them drooling over it!”
