SNOWMOBILER
HISTORY:
• First sled: Yamaha Bravo
• When did you start riding? I started
when I was 8 years old.
• Who got you into snowmobiling?
My dad got me into riding.
• What’s a great day of snowmobiling?
To me a great day of riding is spring riding in the mountains,
looking for lots of jumps.
• Favorite place to ride: There’s
a place outside of Prince George called Coal Mine trail.
Not many people know about it or where it is and I love
it.
RACER INFO:
• First race: In 1999, when I was
17 years old a local guy offered me a used sled to ride
in a race in Prince George. I started racing dirtbikes when
I was 15 or 16 and it really got started then.
• Best race ever: My best race ever
was the Michigan National in 2005. I lapped up to the 4th
place finisher, because the track got really rough and technical.
It was a great race.
• Favorite track: My favorite track
is X Games or Lake Geneva because they’re both actual
tracks. They’re full-on motocross style tracks with
a lot of length and they’re more challenging. Some
tracks are short 30-second laps. I like the longer ones.
• What’s your overall racing goal?
I want to win a medal at the X Games and a season championship.
I won’t be happy until I get them.
• How would you describe your race style?
I’m a finesse rider. I don’t do well mashing
through the track.
• What is your pre-race routine?
I don’t have much of a routine, except to be by myself
(my girlfriend can be around) before a race, listening to
music.
YAMAHA-SPECIFIC INFO:
• What do you think of the race sled so far?
The sled is really good. It’s definitely come a long
way just in the spring. I have about a million laps on the
sled this spring and I haven’t broken a thing yet.
I seriously think I put at least a whole race season’s
worth of laps on the sled and it’s been solid.
• Why did you choose to ride a Yamaha this
season? I was a free agent last season and was
working out a deal with another factory, actually, when
Jesse Strege called me and asked if I’d like to come
on board with Yamaha to help with some testing. I jumped
on the opportunity right away. I knew Yamaha was a huge
company with awesome technology. Once I started working
with them on the race sled, I saw how committed the whole
company is to winning and they’re all behind the snocross
program.
• What do you think are the sled’s strengths?
The motor for sure is this sled’s strength. It’s
going to be a holeshot machine. But it’s also good
in technical rhythm sections because of its strong engine.
• What are your goals for the season?
My goals for this season are pretty much the same as my
overall racing goals. I want a medal at the X Games. I also
want to be finish in the top 3 for points, if not the full
championship.
• Why are you a good fit for the FX Nytro?
It seems to handle well all over the track. It’s a
sled for a finesse rider, I think. The four-stroke bottom
end grunt really makes it good at either getting up and
out of the holes or doubling over them.
• Describe the difference between a 2-stroke
and a 4-stroke race sled: The torque on the four-stroke
is awesome in a rhythm section or out of the corners. Also,
I think the engine braking effect is an advantage. It took
a while for me to get used to it, but now I can use it to
my advantage in coming into a corner and braking hard to
get turned and back out again.
