For information about boating on Lake Tahoe, visit their website at http://www.dbw.ca.gov/Pubs/Blt/index.htm. There is a 600-foot no-wake zone around Lake Tahoe. The speed limit for all watercraft is 5 MPH or less in a zone extending from the shoreline to 600 feet from shore.
Vessels powered by the following engines are still allowed:
• Direct fuel injection (DFI) two-stroke engines
• Two-stroke engines that meet the California Air Resources Board (ARB) 2001 or the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) 2006 emissions standard.
• Inboard engines
• Four-stroke engines
Watercraft powered by the following engines will be allowed on Tahoe Region lakes until October 1, 2001:
• Carbureted two-stroke auxiliary sailboat engines
• Carbureted two-stroke engines of 10 HP or less
• Electronic fuel injection (EFI) two-stroke engines purchased before January 27, 1999
• Any engine that meets U.S. EPA 2001 emissions standard, including Rotax fuel injection (RFI)
two-stroke engines.

Lahontan is located on the Carson River, 18 miles west of Fallon and 45 miles east of Carson City via U.S. 50. The park is open year-round and can be accessed from several entrances on U.S. 50 east of Silver Springs and U.S. 95 south of Silver Springs.

The park is located 10 miles north of Carson City and 15 mites south of Reno. Take U.S. 395 north to the East Lake Boulevard exit, than drive north on East Lake Boulevard approximately 3.1 miles to the park entrance. From Reno, take 395 south to the East Lake Boulevard intersection, turn left, and drive south on East Lake Boulevard for 7.1 miles to the park entrance.

Popular activities in the park include nature study, bird watching, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, windsurfing, water skiing, catamaran sailing, watercraft riding and fishing. Boat Launching Ramps and Docks can be found in the Main Day Use Area and at North Ramp. Boat trailer parking sites are provided. No direct boating access is available at Little Washoe and use by motorized craft is not recommended.
